In this chapter, we examine the research method and the questionnaires used. We then discuss the empirical basis of the typology of social contacts we constructed, the generalizability of the results, and the suitability of the measuring instruments used. Some suggestions will also be made for further research into the phenomenon of social isolation. A theoretical look will be offered of the research results. We will then find out how the research results of this study relate to the existing theories over social networks, and will show which contributions this study can make to an interdisciplinary theory on social isolation.
